"Replete with good byes" out now
Every kiss is a farewell.
Every meeting, a lesson in loss.
Love and death
share the same breath.
Two versions.
One ritual.
New release "A breath in the void" by Ejnar Kanding
A BREATH IN THE VOID
– to capture a breath that is indeed another, a breath of nothing, a breeze in the divine, a wind that transcends the earthly.
- to embrace a breath that is truly an otherworldly whisper.
Six movements for violin and piano:
1) Song is Existence
2) Timeless Beauty
3) Fluidity of Time
4) A Breath in the Void
5) Being
6) A Different Breath
In the realm of musical creation inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke's evocative poem Ein Gott vermags, my composition embarks on a sonic exploration of the profound themes articulated by the poet. The chosen title encapsulates the essence of the musical endeavour – a breath that resonates with a different quality, a whisper that transcends the ordinary.
Premiere by Rikke Sandberg and Kirstine Schneider at Nordisk Kammermusikfestival, Hillerød, July 23, 2024. Album release, September 26, 2025. Commissioned by and dedicated to Rikke Sandberg og Kirstine Schneider.
Supported by: Koda Culture.

The interplay between the violin and piano mirrors the intricate dance of conflicting emotions and existential questions posed by Rilke. The violin's narrow path and the piano's expansive resonance symbolize the “crossroads of heart paths, where no temple stands” for a singular truth.
Structurally, the composition mirrors the fluidity of time, echoing Rilke's inquiry into when the Earth and stars turn their gaze upon our existence. Tension and release become the musical embodiment of the ever-changing nature of our being, as expressed in the poet's verses.

New Release: BILLOW by Ejnar Kanding
The Danish ensemble Contemporánea presents BILLOW, a fusion of contemporary classical music and experimental electronica. BILLOW is a 47-minute, nine-movement performance for clarinet (Bb, G, Bass), live electronics processed through MaxMSP, and immersive video created by Simon Janssen, Hamburg. It unfolds with poetic fragments from Goethe’s “Der Zauberlehrling” (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice). The themes of ambition, chaos, and loss of control lend a narrative dimension, while the music and visuals create an abstract, otherworldly experience. Yet, even without knowledge of Goethe or the work’s origins, the music invites you to experience and interpret the journey individually.
Drawing inspiration from 80s funk, techno, and Balkan and African rhythms, the project transcends musical boundaries. You ride on a growing wave from the enchantment of the spell and a dramatic moment of the broom being cleaved by the axe to a hedonistic denial of exploring crisis, exponential growth through three stages of increasing ecstasy and chaos before the billow finally breaks through.
Does only the desolate emptiness remain?
BILLOW is made possible through generous support from the Danish Arts Foundation, Goethe-Institut Dänemark, William Demant Fonden, Konsul George Jorck og Hustru Emma Jorck’s Fond, BUPL, Københavns Kommunes Musikudvalg, and the Sonning-Fonden.

New Release: Transcience of Time - Album by Ejnar Kanding
"Transcience of Time" is an in-depth exploration of the concept of time and its transcendent nature through musical expression. This 53-minute release marks the culmination of over 20 years of collaboration between double bassist Irina-Kalina Goudeva, guitarist George Vassilev, and composer Ejnar Kanding. The seven works presented across 15 tracks traverse genres and styles while deeply rooted in the aesthetic and tradition of classical music. These pieces blend acoustic and electroacoustic soundscapes, exploring a distinctive sonic world that challenges and immerses the listener by combining advanced compositional methods with cutting-edge digital tools (MaxMSP). The artistic objective is to create and refine a complex, innovative sound while expanding the instrumental, technical, and expressive potential of the double bass and guitar, enhanced by Irina-Kalina Goudeva's contralto voice.
Thematically, the music is inspired by dramaturgical ideas from the poetry of Sylvie Arlettaz (Switzerland), Pablo Neruda (Chile), and Marie Lundquist (Sweden), as well as metaphors relating to humanity, nature, the cosmos, and spirituality.
The Danish Arts Foundation, Koda Culture, Knud Højgaards Fond, and William Demant Fonden have supported the project. Production partners: GVRecords, Ikana Art Studio and Association Concordia.
